Iron – Vital to the production of hemoglobin.
Iron is important for making red blood cells that carry oxygen from the lungs around the body. A lack of iron can lead to iron deficiency (anaemia). Iron supplements should be taken on an empty stomach because food can decrease the amount of iron your body absorbs. Vitamin C is beneficial in helping the body absorb iron whereas coffee and tea can reduce iron absorption.
Follow these tips to maintain a good level of Iron:
Tip 1
Food
Red meat, tofu, baked potato, spinach, silverbeet, broccoli, lentils and beans, nuts and seeds, grains, brown rice and dried fruit.
Tip 2

Tip 3
Healthcare
If you are on medication or have symptoms of anemia talk to your doctor before taking any supplements.
